KL - They/Them/Theirs
KL Joy is a disabled, transmasc, non-binary person who is a parent and care-giver with a passion for advocacy and the LGBTIQA+ community.
They moved from their hometown in Melbourne to Ballarat district in 2014 and have created connections through the marriage equality rallies in 2015/16 and the Equality Roadshow in 2017 that lead to running the Wrainbow Writers group at the Ballarat Library. They have led many events locally such as Xpress Yourself lifestyle and sexuality Expo, the Red Ribbon Luncheons in Daylesford and most recently A Place At The Table, Ballarat.
They have been an active campaigner for the LGBTIQA+ community for over 25 years and held positions on many committees including Vic Leather in Melbourne. They ran for the 2018 International Ms Bootblack title in the US, being the first from Australia to do so. They are also the creator of the Australian Women’s Leather History Project, a series of Zines, held at AQuA.
KL is also passionate about history and works closely with the Australian Queer Archives gathering oral histories.
KL has a passion for leather boots, movies, board games and watching TikTok videos with their 15-year-old offspring.
